HAVEN, Conn.
- The Marist men's swimming and diving team cruised to a 160-123 victory over
the host Southern Connecticut State Owls in New Haven on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore
Sean Molloy (Slingerlands, N.Y.) and freshman Dylan Cummings (Midland Park,
N.J.) highlighted Marist's strong performance in the non-conference meet.
On
a day when Marist won nine events, Cummings was the sole multi-race winner as
he earned victories in the 100- and 200-yd backstroke races with times of 53.66
and 1:57.97, respectively.
Molloy
and freshman Jacob Baker (Shavertown, Pa.) split the diving events with Molloy
winning the 3-m board with a tremendous score of 330.83 that qualified him for
the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships. Baker, meanwhile held off his teammate in
the 1-meter board with a score of 262.95
The
list of individual event winners include: freshmen Jason Ruddy (Lake Katrine,
N.Y.) and John Spitzer (Fairport, N.Y.), sophomore Nick Spinella (Franklin
Square, N.Y.) and junior Dan Gaynor (Sonoma, Calif.).
Ruddy
and Spitzer took their victories in freestyle action with Ruddy winning the
500-yd race in a time of 4:49.54 and Spitzer in the 50-yd sprint with a time of
22.02.
Gaynor
and Spinella split the butterfly events with Gaynor victorious in the 100-yd
race at 55.84 and Spinella coming in first in the 200-yd with a time of
1:58.27.
The
200-yd medley relay team of Cummings, Evan Uy (Kailua-Kona, Hawaii), Ruddy and
Alex Lombardi (Branford, Conn.) took the win with a 1:39.60 result.
The
Red Foxes will begin their final homestand of the season with the first of two
meets next Saturday, Jan. 21. They will welcome Boston College to the McCann
Natatorium in a 1 p.m. meet.
