PHILADELPHIA -
Krystian Witkowski, one of Marist's all-time leading scorers, became an official member of the Philadelphia Union of Major League Soccer on Tuesday afternoon when the club announced his signing to a professional contract. Last month, Witkowski was drafted 26
th overall in the 2012 MLS Supplemental Draft.
Since the draft on January 17, Witkowski has been involved in training with the Union. Head Coach Peter Nowak has his club preparing for its third season in Major League Soccer following an 11-8-15 record during its sophomore campaign in 2011.
Witkowski is one of five players from the Union's 2012 draft class to officially sign today. With these five signings the Union's roster stands at 26 players.
The Union kick off their 2012 season on the road at the Portland Timbers on March 12 in a national telecast on ESPN2. Six days later on March 18, they host the Colorado Rapids in their home opener. That game will be televised on the NBC Sports Network.
A three-time NSCAA All-Region and All-MAAC honoree, Witkowski is the first-ever Red Fox to have signed a pro deal with an MLS organization.
