NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - Jessica Hamby (Sacramento, Calif.) scored five goals, a day after scoring seven in two games, and the Marist water polo team easily handled the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) 19-7 in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) game played at Iona.
Three other Red Foxes scored two goals, including Hamby's twin sister Alison Hamby (Sacramento, Calif.), Shelby Rinker (Lansdale, Pa.) and Kathryn Knutson (Oakland, Calif.). Anna-Lena Hathaway (Pasadena, Calif.) also scored and added five assists. Yuriria Chavez (Chicago, Ill.) and Hannah Levien (Davis, Calif.) each had a goal and two assists and Heather Fellmeth (North Wales, Pa.) also had a multi-point game with a goal and an assist. Elise Humphries (Anaheim, Calif.) made seven saves in goal.
Marist (10-17, 2-1 MAAC) took command early scoring six goals in the first quarter and eight in the second to take a 14-4 lead at halftime.
The Red Foxes will be back in the pool on Saturday against MAAC opponents St Francis (N.Y.) and Villanova. The games will be played at St. Francis.
