BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, N.Y. - The Marist women's water polo scored a combined 30 goals, led by eight from senior Jaclyn Puccino (San Diego, Calif.), in two wins, 16-5 over St. Francis (N.Y.) and 14-4 over Villanova, in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) games played Saturday at St. Francis.
In the Red Foxes (12-17, 4-1 MAAC) first game, Puccino scored six goals, leading Marist to an easy victory against St. Francis (NY), 16-5. Three other Red Foxes score two or more goals in the win. Robyn Crabtree (Cutler Bay, Fla.) scored three goals, while Alison Hamby (Sacramento, Calif.) and Anna-Lena Hathaway (Pasadena, Calif.) scored two goals each. Kelly Kline (Reading, Pa.), Jessica Hamby (Sacramento, Calif.) and Shelby Rinker (Landsdale, Pa.) each also added a goal. Rebecca Thomas (Cape Town, South Africa) had 17 saves in goal.
After trailing 3-1 early, scored eight straight goals, taking a 9-4 lead at halftime.
Just 11 seconds after the Terrier's third goal, which left Marist (11-17, 3-1 MAAC) trailing 3-1 just three and a half minutes into the game, Rinker started the Red Foxes' comeback, scoring the first of eight straight Marist goals that left them up 9-4 at the half.
They then scored four goals in the third quarter and three in the fourth, meanwhile holding St. Francis to just one goal over the final 16 minutes.
Against Villanova, Jessica Hamby scored four times and Puccino and Yuriria Chavez (Chicago, Ill.) each added two goals.
Marist scored the first four goals of the game and led 8-2 at halftime.
The Red Foxes return to the pool Sunday against MAAC opponent Siena. The game is scheduled to start at 1:30 p.m. and will be played at Wagner.
