RIVERSIDE, CALIF. – The Marist men's soccer team falls to 0-2 for the 2013 season with a 2-0 loss Sunday evening against UC Riverside.
Defensively, the Red Foxes played a strong first period, leaving the game tied 0-0 heading into halftime. Mario Vukadinovic (Konstanz, Germany), Cesar Ceja (Port Chester, N.Y.), Greg Davis (Jamaica, N.Y.), and Myles Ashong (Pleasant Valley, N.Y.) all posted shot attempts for Marist in the first half.
UC Riverside's Aaron Long scored the first goal of the night in the 63rd minute off an assist by Romario Lomeli and Bryan Orta to give the Highlanders a 1-0 lead.
Lomeli scored UC Riverside's second goal of the game just minutes later off an assist by Hector Romo. Marist had shot opportunities in the second half but was unable to convert.
Red Fox goalkeeper Anthony Sokalski (London, Ontario) recorded 5 saves with a save percentage of .786. He played all 90 minutes.
The Red Foxes will be back on the road for their next two games with Villanova on Saturday September 7 and Army on Wednesday September 11. The men's home opener is Saturday September 14 at 7 p.m. against New Hampshire at Tenney Stadium.
