TAMPA, Fla. – The Marist softball team defeated Florida A&M 4-3 today to kick off its two-game series at the University of South Florida (USF).

Game One

The Rattlers claimed an early lead in the first inning before the Red Foxes posted a run to the scoreboard in the fourth inning. Sophomore Colleen McWilliams singled to left field to score sophomore Nicole Cheek (Simi Valley, Calif.) in order to tie the game up.

In the fifth inning, junior Taylor Kuzma (Freehold, N.J.) tripled to center field and scored in the next play as sophomore Kyrsten Van Natta (Maplewood, N.J.) flied out to left field. Senior Aly Klemmer (Hamilton, N.J.) was batted in off a triple from senior Alyssa Zahka (Lexington, Mass.), who would move on to score for the Red Foxes as well. Florida A&M would attempt a comeback, posting two runs in the seventh inning, but Marist would not allow them to get any closer.

The Red Foxes spread the efforts for the win throughout the team today, as four separate players claimed runs and six individuals posted Marist's six hits in the outing. Kuzma and Cheek led with six putouts, while Van Natta compiled four assists in the victory. Senior Paige Lewis claimed the win for Marist, tallying four hits, two earned runs and three strikeouts.

Game Two

USF jumped out to an early lead in the first inning, and didn't look back in the outing. Marist compiled two hits from Van Natta and Klemmer in the loss. On defense, the Red Foxes posted 17 putouts with six assists, as Cheek led with five putouts and Van Natta led with two assists.

White took the loss, as she pitched 2.2 innings, tallying six earned runs and two strikeouts in 13 at bats.

The Red Foxes travel to the University of Central Florida (UCF) tomorrow for a two-game series. Marist will face off against the Dutch National team at 2 p.m. before competing against UCF at 4 p.m.
