BOSTON, Mass. – The Marist water polo team fell by just one in today's contest against Harvard. With junior Jessica Hamby (Sacramento, Calif.) leading the Red Foxes with four goals, Marist dropped a 9-8 loss to conclude the Harvard Tournament.
“We played well and played hard for four quarters,” said Head Coach Natalie Benson. “I am happy with the team's no-quit attitude and growth within a new system of play.”
On top of her four goals, Hamby also compiled two field blocks and three ejections drawn. Also for the Red Foxes, senior Yuriria Chavez (Chicago, Ill.), freshman Amanda Amorosa (Montreal, QC), junior Anna-Lena Hathaway (South Pasadena, Calif.) and sophomore Brooke Else (Lansdale, Pa.) added a goal each.
Junior Alison Hamby (Sacramento, Calif.) added three assists in the loss, while Hathaway compiled three assists as well as three steals. Amoroso also notched three steals for Marist. Sophomore goalie Skyler Henry (San Diego, Calif.) had eight saves with three steals and an assist.
The Red Foxes dominated the first quarter with a 4-2 lead over the Crimson. Marist continued to hold a lead over Harvard, with a 6-5 score in the second quarter. Harvard responded in the third as the game was set at seven-all going into the final quarter. The Red Foxes would only claim one goal from Hamby in the fourth before falling 9-8.
Marist moves on to compete at the Arizona State Tournament March 14-16. The Red Foxes will face off against Arizona State on Friday at 3 p.m. before taking on Azusa Pacific at 8:15 p.m.
