HAMDEN, Conn. – The Marist women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision against Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) newcomer, Quinnipiac, on Wednesday afternoon. With the loss, the Red Foxes move to 3-7 overall and 2-3 in conference play. Sophomore Karly Pang (Kaneohe, Hawaii) and senior Marielle Campbell (Patterson, N.Y.) picked up lone singles wins for the Red Foxes at first and third singles.
"Today we played a good conference opponent," said head coach Jason Sacher. "I thought we did a lot of positive things in a lot of areas. We see that we can compete with the best of the teams in the conference. We need to build off the positives we showed today."
Pang picked up one of Marist's two singles wins of the afternoon against Sophia Dzulynsky in three sets, 7-5, 3-6, 6-0. Freshman Callie Morlock (Golden, Colo.) fell to Jacqueline Raynor, 6-1, 6-4. Campbell picked up the second singles win for the Red Foxes over Michelle Dassa, 6-4, 6-2. Sophomore Melissa Carlay (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) dropped a 6-0, 6-2 decision to Sydney Young. Sophomore Nikki Rohan (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) was defeated by Kelsi Oliphant, 6-0, 6-2. Sophomore Katie Seitz (Pennington, N.Y.) fell to Ariana Launie in sixth singles, 6-3, 6-3.
Quinnipiac swept the Red Foxes in doubles. The duo of Pang and Morlock fell to Dzulynsky and Young, 8-5. Sophomore Kaye Eastman (Grand Rapids, Mich.) and Carlay were topped by Raynor and Dassa, 8-0. Seitz and Campbell fell to Mary Chupa and Oliphant, 8-4.
