Water Polo Splits MAAC Play in Two-Game Series

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The Marist water polo team (17-16, 8-2 MAAC) dropped a tough loss to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) foe Wagner to open today's two-game series. Despite three goals apiece from both junior Jessica Hamby (Sacramento, Calif.) and freshman Amanda Amorosa (Montreal, QC), the Red Foxes fell 9-8 in the outing. Marist went on to claim a 12-6 win over VMI to close out the day.

Game One

In the first game of the day, Hamby and Amorosa led with three goals each, while juniors Hannah Levien (Davis, Calif.) and Anna-Lena Hathaway (South Pasadena, Calif.) also notched a goal each.

Also for the Red Foxes, junior Alison Hamby (Sacramento, Calif.) claimed four assists in the loss, while Levien and Amorosa also tallied an assist each. Sophomore Brooke Else (Lansdale, Pa.) added three steals and a field block for Marist, while Amorosa and Hathaway also notched a field block apiece. Jessica Hamby, who leads the team in ejections drawn throughout the season, tallied five more in the outing.

In net for the Red Foxes, sophomore Skyler Henry (San Diego, Calif.) made eight saves, while also adding a steal.

Game Two

The Red Foxes retaliated in game two, posting a 12-6 MAAC win over VMI.

Amorosa led the Red Foxes in the game, notching four goals. Also for Marist, Jessica Hamby and senior Yuriria Chavez (Chicago, Ill.) compiled three goals each, while Alison Hamby and Else added another goal apiece.

Amorosa also led Marist with three assists and a field block, as Jessica Hamby posted a field block as well. Chavez, Alison Hamby and Hathaway all added two assists each to assist Marist with the win. In net, Henry nabbed 12 saves while adding an assist for the victory.

Marist moves on to finish MAAC play tomorrow with another two-game series. The Red Foxes will face off against Villanova at noon before closing out the season against St. Francis at 5:30 p.m.
