Water Polo Sweeps Final Day of Regular Season Competition

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Marist water polo team (19-16, 10-2 MAAC) defeated Villanova 12-4 in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) matchup today before defeating St. Francis 16-3 to close out its regular season.

Game One

In game one, junior Jessica Hamby (Sacramento, Calif.) and freshman Amanda Amorosa (Montreal, QC) led the Red Foxes with three goals each. Also for Marist, senior Kathryn Knutson (Oakland, Calif.), junior Hannah Levien (Davis, Calif.), senior Yuriria Chavez (Chicago, Ill.), junior Alison Hamby (Sacramento, Calif.), junior Anna-Lena Hathaway (South Pasadena, Calif.), and freshman Jocelyn McQuade (Vancouver, BC) each notched a goal in the victory.

Marist tallied 11 assists in the outing, as Jessica Hamby, Chavez, Alison Hamby, Hathaway and Nastassia McGlothlin (Mission Viejo, Calif.) posted two each. Also in the win, Amorosa posted a field block. As the team compiled 14 steals, Jessica Hamby, Chavez and Hathaway led with three apiece. In net for the Red Foxes, sophomore Skyler Henry (San Diego, Calif.) made seven saves while adding a steal for Marist.

The Red Foxes also went 4-4 in defending their man-down opportunities.

Game Two

The Red Foxes closed out their regular season with a 16-3 victory over St. Francis. Amorosa led Marist with four goals, while also adding three steals one assist and one ejection drawn.

Also for Marist, Chavez, Hathaway, McQuade, and freshman Molly Shamieh (Sylmar, Calif.) tacked on two goals apiece. Jessica Hamby, Levien, and McGlothlin also posted a goal each for the Red Foxes.

McQuade tallied two assists to lead Marist in the win, while Levien and Chavez also posted three steals. In net, Henry compiled 12 saves, four assists, and two steals while also adding her first goal of the season at the end of the third quarter.

Marist went 9-9 defending its man down opportunities throughout the day, defending five in the second game.

The Red Foxes move on to host the MAAC Championships, April 26-27. Marist will be the second seed in the championships, and will open tournament play against third-seeded Iona, the three-time defending MAAC champion.
