Water Polo Drops Season Opener to University of Pacific

Water Polo Clinches Fourth Consecutive MAAC Victory

LOUDINVILLE, N.Y. – The Marist water polo team traveled to Siena College for a two-game Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) series today. In the first game, the Red Foxes defeated the Iona Gaels 11-9. Marist came out strong in the second game, overtaking the Saints 13-3.

The Red Foxes now boast a 15-14 overall record, while going 5-1 in the MAAC.

Game One

Marist claimed the first game of the day, with seven different Red Foxes posting goals in the victory.

“I'm happy with the way the team responded after losing to Iona last week,” said Head Coach Natalie Benson. “They were tactically prepared and executed the game plan consistently. We had seven different scorers, and our 5x6 has improved.”

Marist claimed the lead in the first quarter, and never relinquished it throughout the remainder of the game. Junior Jessica Hamby (Sacramento, Calif.) notched four goals for the Red Foxes, while freshman Nastassia McGlothlin (Mission Viejo, Calif.) claimed two goals in the win. Also scoring for Marist, junior Hannah Levien (Davis, Calif.), freshman Amanda Amorosa (Montreal, QC), junior Alison Hamby (Sacramento, Calif.), junior Anna-Lena Hathaway (South Pasadena, Calif.) and sophomore Brooke Else (Lansdale, Pa.) aided the Red Foxes to victory.

Assists were also spread out throughout the team, as senior Yuriria Chavez (Chicago, Ill.), Amorosa, McGlothlin, and Else posted two each. Sophomore Skyler Henry (San Diego, Calif.) compiled 10 saves and one steal in the outing.

The team compiled four steals and one field block in the outing, while drawing eight ejections from the Gaels.

Game Two

Marist posted a 5-1 lead over Siena to kick off the second game in the first quarter. Henry went on to post a shutout in the fourth quarter to seal the victory for the Red Foxes.

Hathaway led Marist in the outing with five goals, while Jessica Hamby notched four more for the Red Foxes. Also scoring for Marist, Amorosoa tallied two for the team, while Chavez, and Alison Hamby claimed a goal each.

Alsion Hamby also added three assist in the win, while Hathaway and Levien tallied three steals and Jessica Hamby had two field blocks. Henry nabbed 12 saves for Marist, while also posting an assist to claim the victory.

The Red Foxes drew nine ejections in the outing. Marist defended seven of their nine five-on-six situations, while capitalizing on three of their five man-up opportunities.

Marist heads to Hartwick tomorrow for two non-conference matchups.Marist will face off against Indiana at 10:30 a.m. before taking on Gannon at 3 p.m.
