HAMDEN, Connecticut - The Marist men's soccer team remained unbeaten in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play following its first tie of the season at Quinnipiac on Oct. 7. After the 1-1 midweek contest, the Red Foxes have a 5-5-1 overall record that includes a 3-0-1 mark in conference play.
Junior captain Dylan MacVane got the equalizer in the 57th minute, but Marist would not score again. Sophomore Mark Rajovic kept the Bobcats off the scoreboard for the final 65:30, making six saves in goal.
Quinnipiac struck first at the tail end of the first half, as junior Ryan Scheiderman found the back of the net on a feed from freshman Rashawn Dally. Marist's first shot attempt in the second half was a header, as sophomore Kevin Kappock aimed a free kick at MacVane, who laid out right at the top of the six and put a bullet into the right side of net.
About five minutes later, freshman Cameron Harr clanged a shot off the post for the Red Foxes' next best scoring chance of the match. Both sides had just one shot in the second overtime and Bobcats' junior goalkeeper Triston Henry made three saves to give Quinnipiac its fourth draw of the season.
"The guys showed a lot of character coming back," head coach Matt Viggiano said. "We were flat in the first half, but found our legs in the second and played well. It's all about points this time of year and we'll take the road point and move on."
Marist will return to Tenney Stadium to host Fairfield at 7 p.m. Oct. 10 and look to make it five straight matches without a loss.
