LEWISBURG, PA. – The No. 20 Marist water polo team (3-5) lost its opening game of the Bucknell Tournament to No. 19 Hartwick in a 9-7 decision Saturday evening at Kinney Natatorium. It was the first of three games of the weekend for the Red Foxes.
Sophomore Jocelyn McQuade (Vancouver, BC) led the Red Foxes in scoring, notching two goals on four shot attempts. Sophomore Amanda Amorosa (Montreal, QC) added a goal, her 16th of the season, as well as three assists, three steals and one field block.
Other contributions came from redshirt junior Ellie Hoffman (Pasadena, Calif.) who had one goal and one ejection drawn. Senior Alison Hamby (Sacramento, Calif) scored one goal and had three steals, senior captain Hannah Levien added one goal, had one assist and one steal, and senior Jessica Hamby (Sacramento, Calif.) had a goal, with three steals and three ejections drawn.
Junior goalie Skyler Henry (San Diego, Calif.) made four saves while giving up nine goals against. The Red Foxes managed to score twice on its eight six-on-five opportunities.
Marist was tied with Hartwick 2-2 at the end of the first quarter on goals from Alison Hamby and Ellie Hoffman. The Red Foxes were unable to capitalize on any scoring chances in the second, while Hartwick added three more goals to enter halftime down by a score of 5-2.
The Red Foxes had their most productive quarter of the day coming out of halftime, finding the back of the net four times on two goals from McQuade, one from Amorosa, and one from J. Hamby. Despite the productive quarter, Marist headed into the fourth quarter down by a score of 8-6. Levien was the lone scorer for Marist in the fourth quarter that also saw Hartwick add a goal to give the final score of 9-7.
Marist returns to action Sunday, Feb. 15 for its final two games of the Bucknell Tournament. The Red Foxes will face No. 10 Long Beach State (4-7) in the first game of the day at 10:30 a.m., before moving on to play Notre Dame College (0-3) at 2:15 p.m.
