WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Marist men's tennis team fell to local rival Army, 4-2, Friday at the Lichtenberg Tennis Center. The Black Knights improved to 7-3, riding a seven game winning streak while the Red Foxes fall to 3-4 in the tough early non-conference season slate.
Freshman Justin Chanthalangsy (San Marcos, Calif.) and senior captain Matteo Giudici (Parma, Italy) led and ended up winning a doubles point for the Red Foxes by defeating Army's Sam Lampman and Michael Nguyen, 8-4, but not before Army won the first two doubles matches to secure the doubles point.
"I loved the way we battled in our singles throughout the whole line up,” head coach Tim Smith said. “Our doubles is still a work in progress, except at three where Giudici and Chanthalangsy pulled out another good win."
In singles, senior captain Joseph Dube (Livonia, Mich.) picked up a nice win against Army's Caison Best, 4-6/6-1/6-2 and Chanthalangsy defeated Michael Nguyen, 6-3/5-7/6-3 but Army picked up the other three points in singles to earn enough to win the overall match.
The Red Foxes return to action Saturday, Feb. 21 as they take on St. Bonaventure at West Point, N.Y. at 5 P.M.
