Box Score CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Marist softball team closed out play in the College of Charleston Invitational on Sunday with an 8-0 loss to the host Cougars in five innings.
Sophomore right fielder Janna Korak (Huntsville, Ala.) had a double and a walk. Freshman left fielder Kourtney Paul (Twinsburg, Ohio) had a single, walk and stolen base.
College of Charleston scored once in the first, and then broke the game open with three in the fourth. The Cougars then ended the game by the eight-run rule with four in the fifth.
For College of Charleston, Hope Klicker (7-10) tossed a three-hit shutout with five strikeouts. Second baseman Katie Padilla and center fielder Rebecca Mueller each had two hits. Padilla scored two runs, and catcher Mackenzie Maples drove in two.
Senior Janine Lalli (Eastchester, N.Y.), who went four-plus innings, took the loss and is 0-3 this season.
Marist fell to 5-9; College of Charleston improved to 14-13.
The Red Foxes will remain south for eight games in a five-day span. Marist will have doubleheaders at North Carolina Central on Tuesday at 5 p.m., and at Hampton on Wednesday at 2 p.m. The Red Foxes close out the road trip at the University of Virginia Tournament, where they will face Delaware State twice and the host Cavaliers twice between Friday and Sunday.
