FAIRFIELD, CONNECTICUT – The Marist men's tennis team won their third straight dual match as they defeated Fairfield, 6-1, Monday afternoon. The Red Foxes have now improved to 8-6 overall on the season and 2-0 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play.
The Red Foxes team of juniors Joe Motta (Staten Island, N.Y) and Fredrik Bjerke (Oslo, Norway) picked up the team's first win of the day defeating the Stags Cameron Amyot and Ofir Solomon, 8-5. The Red Foxes would go on the sweep doubles and earn the point including a 8-2 win from the team of Justin Chanthalangsy (San Marcos, Calif.) and Matteo Giudici (Parma,Italy) over Fairfield's Brad Orban and George Tioutine.
The team would carry their strong showing into singles play as well with Rudolf Kurz (Oberpullendor, Austria), Joseph Dube (Livonia, Mich.), Bjerke, Fletcher and Giuidici all winning their singles matches.
With the win today Giudici, the Red Foxes senior captain, is now just one win away from 100 career victories, a mark his fellow teammate and captain Dube reached earlier in the season.
"I was very pleased how hard the entire team fought on a brisk day in Connecticut,” head coach Tim Smith said. “The score not indicative of the match and I was very pleased with the overall doubles play because this is the first time in a few years that we have won the doubles point against Fairfield.”
The Red Foxes wrap up a three match in three day stretch with a non-conference showdown with Hofstra University at 2 P.M. at the East Campus Tennis Pavilion in Poughkeepsie, New York.
