WORCESTER, MASSACHUSETTS – The Marist softball team (16-18, 4-4 MAAC) won two games at Holy Cross on Tuesday afternoon. The Red Foxes took game one 9-0, before winning game two 11-3.

Game One: Marist 9, Holy Cross 0

Freshman left fielder Gabrielle Kelliher (East Brunswick, New Jersey) had three RBIs and one run scored on 1-for-4 at the plate. Freshman right fielder Kourtney Paul (Twinsburg, Ohio) was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Freshman first basemen Samantha Reilly (Toms River, New Jersey) went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and one run scored.

The Red Foxes took an early lead scoring two runs in the second inning. Junior center fielder Colleen McWilliams (Monrovia, California) scored off a Paul single, and sophomore second basemen Jordynn Barrera (Clinton, Utah) singled to left field allowing Paul to score. The Red Foxes kept the runs coming in the third inning. Kelliher hit a three-run homer to center field to extend the lead to 5-0.

In the sixth inning Paul got things started with a home run of her own. Reilly hit a three-run RBI double to left field to round out the scoring for the Red Foxes, securing the 9-0 victory.

Senior right-hander Janine Lalli pitched a complete game shutout in the win for Marist. Lalli (2-5) gave up six hits with zero earned runs and four strikeouts. Tori Cheske (0-3) pitched 2.1 innings in the loss for Holy Cross. Cheske gave up seven hits and five earned runs with two strikeouts.

Game Two: Marist 11, Holy Cross 3

Junior third basemen Maureen Duddy (San Mateo, California) went 4-for-5 with one RBI and one run scored. Freshman right fielder Kourtney Paul (Twinsburg, Ohio) was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Sophomore second basemen Jordynn Barrera (Clinton, Utah) went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

The Red Foxes fell behind early giving up two runs in the bottom of the first inning. In the fourth inning Paul sacrifice flied out to right field for the first Marist run of the game. Barrera reached on an error driving in the second run of the inning. Duddy then singled to center field and Barrera scored giving the Red Foxes their first lead of the game.

In the top of the fifth inning freshman Gabrielle Kelliher (East Brunswick, New Jersey) hit a two-run home run to make the score 5-2. Paul then hit a RBI double to right center, and Barrera hit a RBI single to left field to extend the Red Foxes lead to 7-2. In the top of the seventh Paul homered for her third RBI of the game. Sophomore catcher Rebecca Freeman (Robbinsville, New Jersey) hit a two-run RBI single, and freshman first basemen Samantha Reilly (Toms River, New Jersey) hit an RBI single to left field to end the scoring for Marist.

Senior right-handed pitcher Melanie White (Highlands Ranch, Colorado) pitched 4.0 innings and picked up the win for the Red Foxes. White (4-4) gave up four hits and one earned run with six strikeouts. Gennifer Durham (2-6), who pitched 5.0 innings, picked up the loss for Holy Cross.

The Red Foxes return to action on Thursday, April 16 for a doubleheader against the University of Massachusetts. The first pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
