POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist women's swimming and diving team took down Boston College, 175-120, on Jan. 16 after returning to McCann Natatorium for the first time since November. The Red Foxes moved to 8-1 overall following their seventh straight dual meet victory this season.
The 200-yard medley relay A squad of sophomore Georgia Goldman, junior Isabella Morreale, sophomore Daniela Gomez and junior Meredith Wurtz kicked off the meet with the fastest time of 1:49.01.
Three of the four freestyle competitors picked up individual victories, as Goldman won the 100-yard backstroke in 1:00.28 and Morreale won a pair of breaststroke events after clocking in at 1:06.79 at 100 yards and 2:27.39 at 200 yards. At the shorter freestyle distances, it was Wurtz who dominated with marks of 24.55 seconds at 50 yards and 53.06 seconds at 100 yards. Gomez placed second in the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.47).
Senior Bethany Powhida led 1-2-3 Marist finishes in two events. Powhida won the 200-yard backstroke in 2:08.15 and was followed by sophomore Margaux Purvis (2:12.55) and junior Breann Lydon (2:13.37). In the 500-yard freestyle, Powhida took the top time of 5:07.94 followed by sophomores Sara Nestrowitz (5:17.76) and Deirdre Connor (5:19.02). Powhida also placed first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:55.90).
For the second consecutive meet, sophomore Megan Berardelli was the top finisher in the 3-meter dive with 278.25 points. The Marist women went 1-2-3 at one meter, led by senior Renata Diotalevi's score of 252.00 points. Berardelli followed in second (243.22 points) and freshman Lauren Katz (224.25 points) rounded out the group in third place.
Marist will host Seton Hall on Senior Day at 1 p.m. Jan. 23. Bridget Curley, Diotalevi, Alexandria Koukos and Powhida will be honored in the pregame ceremony.
