WEST POINT, New York – Marist men's tennis head coach Tim Smith earned his 300th program victory today after the Red Foxes blanked Sacred Heart, 5-0, in a non-conference dual match.
The Red Foxes only needed singles play to secure the match victory as the Red Foxes won four straight singles matches to start the day and bypassed the doubles portion of the match.
Rudolf Kurz, Fredrik Bjerke, Justin Chanthalangsy, Jan Dernic, Dylan Fletcher, and Paulo Siracusa all won their singles matches in straight sets. Timo Tanzer was leading in his match against Sacred Heart's Karan Narula but the match didn't continue because the Red Foxes had already clinched.
“300 wins wouldn't be possible without the three outstanding volunteer assistants that I've had over the last 17 years,” Smith said. “Charlie Warburton, Ron Lane, and Elliot Sussin all played a major role in helping us achieve this record.”
Of the 300 wins, 125 of them have come in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference against just seven losses. Along the way the team has compiled an astounding 12 MAAC Championships, including three consecutive titles and seven of the last eight overall.
“In these 17 years I can only think of one match that we should've won that we didn't,” said Smith. To me that says a lot about the kids we've had playing here.”
Up next the Red Foxes ship up to Boston for a dual match against Boston University on Saturday, February 19th at 3 p.m.
