Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

MADEIRA BEACH, Florida – The Marist softball team split two games on Saturday at the Eastern Michigan Tournament. In its first game of the day, the Red Foxes topped Eastern Michigan, 6-4. Marist suffered a 9-5 loss to Georgia Southern in its second contest.

Senior infielder Maureen Duddy led Marist with three hits and three RBIs on the day.

Here is a closer look at each game.

Game One – Marist 6, Eastern Michigan 4

Marist broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fifth with a four-run frame. Sophomore designated player Miranda Perez's RBI fielder's choice brought home junior right fielder Janna Korak with the game's first run. Duddy followed with a two-run single. She then stole third base, and came home on a throwing error for Marist's final run of the inning.

The Red Foxes added a pair of runs in the sixth. Senior center fielder Colleen McWilliams and junior catcher Rebecca Freeman belted back-to-back doubles, and Korak followed with an RBI single.

Eastern Michigan responded with four runs in the sixth. But Jessica Van Alphen recorded the final four outs for her first save.

In her first collegiate start, Megan Beiermeister (1-0) allowed just one earned run over 5.2 innings.

For Eastern Michigan, left fielder Lucy Lopez and shortstop Haley Hostetler each had two hits and an RBI.

Game Two – Georgia Southern 9, Marist 5

Georgia Southern opened the scoring with a run in the top of the first, and added five in its half of the second. Center fielder Taylor Rogers had a bases-clearing double in the second.

Marist got on the scoreboard with one run in the fourth on a fielding error, and cut its deficit to 6-5 following a four-run fifth which included a three-run homer by sophomore center fielder Gabrielle Kelliher. However, Georgia Southern tacked on a run in the sixth, and two in the seventh.

For Marist, freshman starter Kallen Leeseberg (0-1) went the first 2.1 innings. Freshman Brooke Peterson allowed one earned run and struck out five in 4.2 innings of relief.

Starter Dixie Raley (2-2) struck out seven in four-plus innings for Georgia Southern. Kierra Camp tossed the final three innings for her first save.

Marist is now 2-1 on the season. The Red Foxes will close out play at the Eastern Michigan Invitational on Sunday. The Red Foxes will face Providence at 9 a.m., followed by North Florida at 11:30 a.m.
