Box Score CLEARWATER, Florida – The Marist softball team earned a 4-1 victory over Hartford on Sunday in its fourth game the University of South Florida's Tournament.
Senior third baseman Maureen Duddy went 3-for-4 with three runs scored, three stolen bases, two RBIs and a double. Senior shortstop Kyrsten Van Natta went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two stolen bases. Junior catcher Rebecca Freeman and junior right fielder Janna Korak each went 2-for-3, and Korak added a run scored.
In the circle, freshman Megan Beiermeister pitched her first collegiate complete game and improved to 5-0. Beiermeister scattered seven hits and struck out three.
Hartford opened the scoring in the top of the first, when a two-out single by designated player Lexi Wilkerson brought home shortstop Kylie Dazalla. Marist answered in the bottom of the first. Duddy led off with a bunt single and then stole second. After taking third on the front end of a double steal with freshman center fielder Casey Page, Duddy scored on a fielder's choice off the bat of Van Natta.
The score remain tied at one until the home half of the fifth. Duddy led off with a double, and advanced to third on a sacrifice by Page. Van Natta's single to left field brought Duddy home and gave Marist the lead for good.
Marist tacked on two more runs in the sixth. Duddy's double brought home Korak, who had led off the inning with a single. Duddy then stole third, and came home on an errant throw.
With two outs in the seventh, Hartford brought the tying run to the plate, but Beiermeister got a strikeout to end the game.
For Hartford, Dazalla and center fielder Jenice Aloyo each had two hits. Starter Bianca Ross allowed one run over the first three innings. Melissa Pereira (0-2) went the final three innings for the Hawks.
Marist is now 13-6 overall. Hartford is 3-21.
Marist returns to action on Monday night, when the Red Foxes take on South Florida in a single game. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
