CARSON, California – Two former Marist men's soccer players, Matty Berman and Matel Anasta have been invited to take part in the 2017 National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) Player Showcase which will take place January 7th-9th at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.
Both players will be on the Northeast Region Team with Berman representing his club New Jersey Copa FC and Anasta representing his club the Kingston Stockade. Amongst the 16 players selected for the team, Berman and Anasta were picked out of a league of 85 teams and over 3,500 athletes.
Taking place over the course of three days, players will compete against other top national talent at the home of the LA Galaxy. The tournament will host representatives from the top clubs throughout the top-tier MLS, the NASL, the USL and various international professional teams. Multiple agents will also be in attendance at the showcase.
In 2016, Berman played midfielder for NJ Copa FC and had nine goals shot with one goal scored for a team that went 8-5-2, qualified for the postseason and advanced to the final eight of the national tournament.
In 56 games for the Red Foxes from 2012-14, Berman had eight assists, 19 shots and seven shots on goal. He was named to the MAAC All-Academic Team in 2013 and 2014 and was named a captain of the team in 2013. Prior to coming to Marist, Berman played for a Rutgers University team that made it to the third round of the NCAA Tournament, where he played in seven games and made five starts as a freshman. Currently, Berman coaches the U11 G06 Black and Red teams for FC Copa Academy.
Anasta played in 29 games for the Red Foxes from 2013-15 and had one assist, six shots and five shots on goal.
