EDISON, New Jersey – Marist men's soccer freshman Allen Gavilanes has been named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference men's soccer Rookie of the Week the conference announced on Monday.

The award marks the first accolade of Gavilanes' career.

In two games this past week, Gavilanes finished with three goals and one assist to go along with seven shots and six shots on goal. In the Red Foxes' 3-1 win at Niagara last Wednesday, Gavilanes scored the team's third goal when he collected the ball inside the box on the left side and rocketed a shot inside the near post. At Quinnipiac on Saturday, he tied the game at 1-1 when he banged home the rebound off a shot that hit the post and then gave Marist the lead in the 73^rd minute with a gorgeous right footed chip into the top left corner after collecting a Red Fox corner on the right side of the box.

Marist stands at 7-8-0 (3-4-0 MAAC) and hosts Canisius (10-3-2, 4-1-2 MAAC) on Wednesday at Tenney Stadium (4 p.m.)
