The Red Foxes scored four runs in the bottom of the first thanks to a two-run double by freshman Amanda Sartori. Sophomore Madison Lee followed with a two-run single. Marist then expanded its lead to 5-0 in the third when senior Janna Korak led off the inning with a home run.

In the fourth, Caitlyn Emberson's three-run homer cut Charleston Southern's deficit to 5-3. Her grand slam one inning later gave the Buccaneers the lead for good.
