EDISON, N.J. – Marist men's tennis senior Dylan Fletcher (Stow, Massachusetts) was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference men's tennis Player of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday. It is the second time in his career he has been awarded the honor.
Fletcher, an All-MAAC First team selection his sophomore season, went 4-2 on the week winning three singles and a doubles match including a singles win against the No. 47th ranked team in the nation, Yale.
“Dylan has been a warrior for our team for four years, even when he did not play in the top six,” said head coach Tim Smith. “He is dependable, coachable, hardworking, and a real fighter on the court.”
Fletcher picked up two wins on Saturday as he defeated Fairfield's Peter Colliard, 6-1, 6-0 and then teamed up with Justin Chanthalangsy to defeat Dylan Appel and Peter Colliard, 6-0. The Red Foxes went on to defeat Fairfield, 5-2 overall.
The next day, Fletcher picked up a 7-5, 6-4 win over No. 47 Yale's Dennis Wang and also won another singles match from the no. 5 spot later that day against Stony Brook's Hari Rohan, 6-1, 6-3.
Fletcher tallied the only point for Marist against Yale and helped the Red Foxes win 4-1 over Stony Brook and improve to 6-2 on the season.
Up next the Red Foxes will return home and host their first matches of the season against Georgetown on Saturday, March 25 and then Boston University on Sunday, Mar 26.
