POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist men's soccer team was picked to finish seventh in the 2018 MAAC Preseason Coaches' Poll, as voted by the league's eleven head coaches.

Marist is coming off a 7-10-1 (3-6-1 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) season last year, and looks to improve upon that with an experienced returning squad.

The Red Foxes welcome nine incoming additions to the roster for 2018, consisting of five freshmen and four transfer students. Marist also welcomes back 18 players from last season, including 7 of last year's starting lineup. Overall, the Red Foxes have 31 student-athletes on the team representing six different states (CT, NJ, WA, NY, PA, CO) and five different countries (Canada, Sweden, Brazil, Bolivia, Denmark).

Sophomore forward Allen Gavilanes was voted the Preseason Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Player of the Year.
Gavilanes was voted to the Preseason All-MAAC team by the 11 head coaches after posting eight goals, nine assists, 25 points, 57 shots and 23 shots on goal in 2017. He was named the 2017 MAAC Offensive Player of the Year as well as the MAAC Rookie of the Year.

Marist kicks off the 2018 season at Albany on Friday, August 24^th at 7 PM. The matchup marks the third consecutive year the teams have squared off to open their respective seasons, with the previous bouts resulting in a tie in 2016 and a win for the Red Foxes in 2017.
