POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist softball team will participate in the TSU Winter Warm Up Tournament this upcoming weekend. The teams the Red Foxes are scheduled to face include Tennessee State, East Tennessee State, North Alabama, and Portland State.

The tournament will open up on Friday, March 1, and there have been revisions to the schedule. Marist is now to play two games on the tournament's first day, with the Red Foxes scheduled to play their first game at 11 a.m. against Tennessee State. Later in the same day, the Red Foxes will take on East Tennessee State, with first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m. On Saturday, March 2, Marist will face Portland State at 11 a.m., and then take on North Alabama at 3 p.m. The Red Foxes will close out the tournament with a game against Portland State on Sunday, March 3. First pitch is scheduled for 10 a.m.

Marist opened its 2019 slate with two games on Saturday, Feb. 23. The Red Foxes faced off against Saint Peter's and Seton Hall, both games being hosted by Seton Hall. Marist won both of the games, defeating the Peacocks 13-3 in five innings, and then defeating the Pirates 8-1 later in the day. Junior
Ali Milam had a monster weekend, going a combined 5-for-7 with three homers and 10 RBIs, leading to her being named the
MAAC Player of the Week. Sophomore
Caroline Baratta also had an impressive day, going a combined 6-for-8 with five runs scored and a stolen base. Freshman
Calista Phippen picked up a win in her first collegiate start, going four strong with seven strikeouts and just one earned run against Seton Hall.

The Tigers are 1-4 so far this season. They played all five of their games so far in the Sand Dollar Classic, in which they lost the first four games, but finished the tournament with a win against Florida A&M. Bri Vire leads Tennessee State with an impressive .438 average and 3 RBIs this season. Beckey Melton, Patton Akers, and Sarah Snell each have one homer so far on the season. Raven Loveless leads the pitching staff with a 2.62 ERA in three appearances. She has six strikeouts in 13.1 innings pitched and has one complete game already.

The Bucs are 8-4-2 so far this season. Most recently, they competed in the GWU Softball Tournament, in which they went 2-3, their worst showing this year so far. Nikki Grupp has been on an absolute tear in 2019, already compiling a team high five homers and 21 RBIs, with a .364 average. Kelly Schmidt is 4-2 in the circle for East Tennesse State, pitching to the tune of a 2.56 ERA in 38.1 innings pitched, with 34 strikeouts and five complete games.

The Lions are 8-3 thus far this season. Most recently, they competed in the Michelle Short Memorial Collegiate Classic, in which they went 2-1. Veronica Westfall leads North Alabama with a .455 average and .457 on base percentage, as well as with 15 hits and two stolen bases. Harley Stokes has been on a power surge, already slugging five homers and 10 RBIs. The Lions have four pitchers with under a 2.75 ERA, led by Sidney Revels with a 0.39 ERA in five appearances.

The Vikings are 6-8 overall in 2019. Most recently, they competed in the Amy S. Harrison Classic, hosted by UC Riverside, in which they went 3-2. Darian Lindsey is the player too look out for, as she leads Portland State with a .477/.582/.727 slash line, 13 runs scored, 21 hits, 32 total bases, and three stolen bases. Katie Schroeder leads the pitching staff with a 3.30 ERA and a 3-3 record. She has held her opponents to a .293 average in 40.1 innings and has four complete games.

The Red Foxes will travel to South Carolina to participate in the Charleston Invitational. The tournament spans from March 8-10, and Marist will take on the likes of Bryant, North Carolina State, Rhode Island, Youngstown State, and the College of Charleston.
