POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – After last week's Part I of the 2020 Marist softball preview focused on the Red Foxes' pitchers, this week's second part examines the team's catchers.
Â
Kaley Coltrain started 37 games at catcher last year as a freshman, and was rewarded with a Second Team All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference selection. In 2019, Coltrain hit .314 and was second on the team in home runs (seven), runs batted in (35), and slugging percentage (.545). She also established herself as a solid defensive catcher, as she threw out five runners trying to steal. She had a .996 fielding percentage while committing only one error, and had just one passed ball.
Â
Coltrain was also named Third Team NFCA All-Region, MAAC All-Rookie Team, MAAC Player of the Week (once), and MAAC Rookie of the Week (twice) last season.
Â
Senior
Jade Sinskul has played in 83 games and started 59 over the last three years. She will compete for playing time behind the plate, and may see action at first base as well.
Â
Although she figures to see most of her playing time in the infield this season, red-shirt senior
Claire Oberdorf has started 57 games at catcher in her career with the Red Foxes.
Â
Marist welcomes a pair of freshmen from New Jersey this season:
Meghan Davis from Cherry Hill, and
Shea Walsh from Robbinsville. Both are expected to compete for playing time at catcher, and may see action at other positions as well.
Â
Madison Lee has graduated after playing for the Red Foxes from 2016-19. Although Lee was a utility player who saw most of her time at first base and in the outfield, she started 13 games behind the dish during the course of her collegiate career.
