POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Marist men's and women's outdoor track and field joined the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference ahead of the 1997-98 season. Here is a look at all the Red Foxes have accomplished throughout the 23 years they have spent in the league.
Michelle Gaye: Gaye enjoyed a ton of success throughout her career. In addition to being a multiple-time school record holder (5k and 10k runs, DMR), she became the first female athlete in school history to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Regional Championships (5,000 meters). She won the 5,000 meters at the MAAC championships in 2015, and medaled on three other occasions.
Debbie Boerke: Boerke rewrote the record books for many sprinting events while picking up a MAAC Championship in the 400m hurdles in the spring of 2019. Boerke stands as the school record holder in the 400m hurdles (time of 1:00.75), and was a part of program-record relays such as the 4x100m, 4x200m, and 4x400m. Boerke also won individual MAAC Championships in the 400m IH in 2018 and 2019, making the MAAC Championship Outdoor Team in 2019. She qualified for the ECAC Championships from 2016-2019, setting a new school record every season.
Liza Grudzinski: One of only a couple Red Foxes to win a major reward at the MAAC Championships, Grudzinski was crowned Most Outstanding Performer at the 2003 MAAC Championships. Another highlight of her career was placing 30th in the 5k at NCAA Super Regionals in 2003. Additionally, she was Academic All-District in both 2002 and 2003. Grudzinski set a program and MAAC record at the time in 2002, winning her first individual MAAC Championship in the 10,000m. Then in 2003, she won both the 3,000m and 5,000m.
Susan Golden: Golden enjoyed great success throughout her stellar four-year campaign with the Red Foxes. Golden was the Most Outstanding Athlete at the 2000 MAAC Championships, and won four individual MAAC Championshisp throughout her career. This list includes winning the 800m and 1500m in 2000, then winning the 800m in 2002 and the 1500m in 2003. She is also remembered for setting a program record in the 800-meter run, clocking in with a time of 2:11.57.
Chrissy McDevitt: McDevitt won seven individual MAAC titles during her career at Marist (4 outdoors), more MAAC titles that any Marist athlete in school history. Those titles were the 400m IH (2004, 2005, 2007) and the 100m HH (2007). All four were school records at the time.
Will Griffin: Griffin is the school record holder in 5,000m and 10,000m runs. He qualified for the NCAA East Regional in 2011, and placed 33rd overall. Griffin earned seven medals throughout his career at the MAAC Championships.
Arquimedes DeLaCruz: Delacruz had a decorated career at Marist, highlighted by becoming the first runner in school history to qualify for two USA Track & Field Junior National Championship events in the same season - the 3,000-meter steeplechase and the 5,000-meter run - with times of 9:25.90 and 15:03.14, respectively.
Girma Segni: Segni had an outstanding career during his four years at Marist. He owned the outdoor 5k and 10k records at the time of his graduation.
Drew Burns: Burns made the MAAC All-Academic Team his senior season, and was also a CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree one time in his career with the Red Foxes. Burns holds the school record in 1000-meter run, with a time of 2:24.79 in 2019. Burns was also a part of the SMR and DMR relay teams that hold school record times of 3:33.93 and 10:01.03, respectively.
Adam Vess: Vess is one of the most talented runners that has come through the program. When it comes to outdoor track, Vess holds the school record in the 15000m run, clocking in at 3:49.61 in 2009.
Michelle Gaye: Won MAAC title in the 500m in 2015, setting a MAAC record at the time.
Chrissy McDevitt: Won four outdoor MAAC titles, all setting school records at the time.
Matt Flint: Won Most Outstanding Performer at 2010 MAAC Championships.
Liza Grudzinski: Won Most Outstanding Athlete at 2003 MAAC Championships.
Sue Golden: Won Most Outstanding Athlete at 2000 MAAC Championships.
Phil Kelly: Won Women's Coach of the Year in 2008.
