BUFFALO, New York - Day one of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships has been completed, and Marist currently sits in a tie for third on the women's side, while the men are tied for sixth place.Â
The women scored 89 points on Wednesday, only trailing Niagara (102 points), and Fairfield (109 points). The men's team scored 58 points on Wednesday but only trail first place Rider by 12 points.Â
The Marist women found success in the 1-meter dive, with graduate student
Grace Reeves placing first in the event and senior
Madison Sweeney placing fourth. Reeves dominated the competition, finishing with a score of 246.30 in the finals which was 25 points higher of a score than the second place finisher.
Madison Sweeney scored 201.85 and fell short of third place by less than 12 points.Â
On the men's side, the relay team of
Ahmed Sallam, Chris Dauser,
Pavel Makarchuk, and
Ethan McCormac placed second in the event with a time of 1:30.14, breaking the previous school record.
Ahmed Sallam recorded a time of 22.56 in the backstroke, which also broke a school record.Â
The MAAC Swimming and Diving Championships continue on Thursday, with the first event starting at 10 a.m. at the Burt Flickinger Center in Buffalo, NY.
