Red Foxes Starting 2022 Campaign Down South

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist softball team will open its 2022 season this weekend at the UNCW Invitational in Wilmington, North Carolina. The tournament starts on Friday, Feb. 18 and wraps on Sunday, the 20th. The Red Foxes will face off against host UNC Wilmington and Bucknell.

Last Season
  • Last season, the Red Foxes finished with an overall record of 15-12 and a MAAC record of 12-10, earning them the eighth seed in the MAAC Championship. After sweeping top-seeded Monmouth in the opening round, the Red Foxes placed third in the MAAC championship round.
  • Kaley Coltrain led the MAAC with a .459 batting average, on-base percentage (.551), and slugging percentage (.959). She tied for the conference lead with 10 homers, and also drove in 30 runs. She led the team with 34 hits, and was named First Team All-MAAC.
  • Caroline Baratta was named MAAC Defensive Player of the Year and First Team All-MAAC after another outstanding season at shortstop.
  • Baratta (32) and Shea Walsh (31) both recorded over 30 hits last season.
  • Miah McDonald was named to the MAAC All-Rookie Team. 
  • Calista Phippen led the team with a 1.69 ERA over 99.1 innings in 2021. She was named Second Team All-MAAC.
  • Overall, the pitching staff finished with a cumulative ERA of 2.49. 
 
Preseason Predictions
  • Marist was voted to finished first in the MAAC in the 2022 Softball Preseason Coaches' Poll.
  • Coltrain, Phippen, and Barrata were all selected to the Preseason All-MAAC Team. 
 
Scouting UNCW
  • Marist is 3-2 all-time against UNCW.
  • UNCW is 4-0 on the season thus far, winning games against Toledo and Charleston Southern.
  • The last matchup between these two teams fell in favor of the Red Foxes by a score of 5-1 on Feb. 29, 2020. Meghan Haff pitched a two-hitter with 13 strikeouts.
  • Last season, UNCW finished with a record of 15-23.
  • UNCW was picked to finished sixth in the 2022 Colonia Athleitc Association Preseason Coaches' Poll. 
 
Scouting Bucknell
  • Marist has an all-time record of 2-2-1 against Bucknell.
  • This is the first meeting between the teams since 2012, when the Red Foxes swept a doubleheader.
  • So far this year, Bucknell is 0-4, losing games to Notre Dame and Charlotte.
  • Last season, the Bison finished with an overall record of 12-18-1.  
 
Up Next

Following their trip to Wilmington, the Red Foxes head to DeLand, Florida for the Hatter Classic, hosted by Stetson. They will play five total games against URI, Stetson, and Harvard.
