Busy Week Lies Ahead for Softball

Red Foxes To Play Six Games in Five-Day Span

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist softball team will play three Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference doubleheaders in a five-day span starting on Wednesday.
 
Up ahead for the Red Foxes:
 
  • Wednesday, April 27: at Manhattan, 1 p.m.
  • Saturday, April 30: at Quinnipiac, noon
  • Sunday, May 1: vs. Rider, noon
 
About Marist
  • The Red Foxes are 18-24 overall, and are tied for sixth in the MAAC at 6-6.
  • Marist swept a home doubleheader from Siena this past Saturday in its last time out, winning by scores of 9-1 (in five innings) and 7-2.
  • On Tuesday, Maddie Pleasants was named MAAC Rookie of the Week. Pleasants had a six-RBI game against Siena in game two, and hit her first two collegiate homers in a three-game span. She has reached safely in her last seven plate appearances.
  • Caroline Baratta (eight) is tied for the MAAC lead in home runs. Miah McDonald (34) is tied for the MAAC lead in RBIs.
  • Kiley Myers has a team-best seven wins, and is coming off a two-hitter against Siena on Saturday. Calista Phippen has a team-best 2.88 ERA, and had a complete game victory against Siena on Saturday.
 
About Manhattan
  • Manhattan is 11-24 overall, and is also tied for sixth in the MAAC at 5-5.
  • The Jaspers enter Wednesday's action having won four straight. Manhattan had a pair of shutouts in a Saturday sweep of Monmouth, and then swept Rider (which entered the day tied for first) on Sunday.
  • On Tuesday, Megan Hedlund was named MAAC Player of the Week, and Jessie Rising was named MAAC Pitcher of the Week.
 
About Quinnipiac
  • The Bobcats are 10-22 overall and 4-8 in the MAAC. Quinnipiac will host a non-conference game against Merrimack on Wednesday prior to facing the Red Foxes.
  • Quinnipiac most recently faced Siena on Sunday, and split a doubleheader.
  • Gianna Palmisano is hitting a team-best .339, while Kayla Thomas has team bests of six homers and 17 RBIs.
 
About Rider
  • The Broncs are 24-20 overall, and are tied for third in the MAAC at 8-6. Rider will have a non-conference doubleheader at Princeton on Wednesday, and then a MAAC doubleheader at Siena on Saturday prior to facing the Red Foxes.
  • Four Rider hitters are hitting at least .333. Elena Gonzalez has team highs in RBIs (34) and home runs (four).
  • Four Rider pitchers have tossed at least 50 innings. Anna-Marie Groskritz has team highs in wins (eight) and innings pitched (110). Jessie Niegocki has a team-best 2.17 ERA and 89 strikeouts, and also leads the Broncs with a .370 batting average.
