Red Foxes Add Five Freshmen & Eight Transfers

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - Coming off a MAAC Championship in 2021, Marist men's soccer coach Matt Viggiano has announced the addition of 13 players for the 2022 season.

Damola Akanni, Jay Alves, Albion Bacaj, Skyler Cunha, German Fuentes, Hugo Geurra, Jared Juleau, AJ Lucas, Andrea Nguionza, Zach Rabadi, Danny Ramm, Jonathan Salguero, and Donovan Wu will join the Red Foxes in their quest to repeat as conference champions.

Damola Akanni - Freshman - Wing - 5-9/154 - Surrey, Canada - Cardinal Ambrozic Catholic School 
Has playing experience with Phoenix United SC (2016-2019), Bonivital Soccer Club (2019-2020), Vancouver Whitecaps U16 (2020), Surrey United (2020-2021), Toronto FCII (2021), Toronto FC U19 (2021-2022), and Vaughn SC (2022). Akanni was the #1 ranked prospect in Canada for 2022 Recruiting Class of FTF CANADA and the leading goal scorer in FTF recruiting events.

Jay Alves - Sophomore - Center Midfield/Back - 6-1/175 - Centereach, NY - University at Albany
At UAlbany, Alves appeared in 15 games while starting seven at Center Back and Defensive Midfield. In his freshman season, he earned America East All-Rookie team. In high school, Alves was named team captain in 2019 and 2020 and named All-Conference and All-County in 2019. In his senior season, he received All-Conference, All-County, All-State, and All-Region recognition. Jay will have three years of NCAA eligibility at Marist. 

Albion Bacaj - Sophomore - Centerback - 6-3/185 - Chappaqua, NY - Sacred Heart
During his time at Sacred Heart, Bacaj appeared in 17 games while starting 16 at centerback, and finished second on the team in minutes (1569). At Beachside Academy, he was named team captain during 2021 season and was selected to play for the Kosovo U17 National team. Albion will have three years of NCAA eligibility at Marist.

Skyler Cunha - Freshman - Center Midfield/Back - 5-10/160 - Newark, NJ - St. Benedict's Prep
Cunha enters Marist coming off an accomplished playing career at St. Benedicts's Prep, winning two New Jersey State title (2019, 2021) and a National Champion (2019). In the 2021 season, Cunha scored eight goals and added nine assists. At Cedar Stars Bergen, he helped lead his team to the MLS Next Playoff Quarterfinals in 2021 and followed it up in 2022 with an MLS Next Fall Inter League Championship.

German Fuentes - Graduate Student - Centerback - 6-4/187 - Joroco, El Salvadore - UMass Lowell
Fuentes joins Marist as a graduate student from UMass Lowell where he played three seasons for the River Hawks. At UMass Lowell, he appeared in 31 games while starting 29 at Centerback over three seasons. In his career, he tallied one goal and added one assist with a total of 20 shots, while helping lead the River Hawks to the America East Tournament Semi-Finals in 2019. At Bunker Hill Community College, he selected as All-Region XXI and an NJCAA All-American in 2017. Fuentes will have one year of NCAA eligibility at Marist and be a graduate student in the MPA program.

Hugo Guerra - Graduate Student - Left/Right Wing - 5-10/155 - Brewster, NY - Rhode Island
Coming to the Red Foxes from Rhode Island, Guerra appeared in 20 games while starting 12 as a Winger over two seasons. In his playing career for the Rams, he scored five goals and added two assists with a total of 22 shots. During the 2021 shortened season, Guerra was the leading goal scorer with three goals and was a member of the A10 All-Academic team. Prior to Rhode Island, he appeared in 28 games for the University at Albany while starting seven as a Winger over two seasons. The graduate student will have one year of NCAA eligibility and be a graduate student in the MBA program at Marist. 

Jared Juleau - Junior - Left Wing/Back - 5-7/145 - Stamford, CT - St. John's University
At St. John's, Jared appeared in 45 games and started a total of 27 spanning over three seasons. The speedy wing totaled four goals and five assists from his left wingback position for the Red Storm. Juleau helped his team reach the Sweet 16 in 2019 and 2nd Round of NCAA Tournament in 2021. In his time with the New York Red Bulls academy system, he served as a team captain while playing and starting in 49 games at the U18/U19 level. Juleau will have two years of NCAA eligibility remaining at Marist. 

AJ Lucas - Freshman - Goalkeeper - 6-1/195 - Beacon, NY - Beacon High School
At Quickstrike FC, Lucas helped lead his team to a 2018 EDP Showcase Finals, 2018 NCFC (CASL) Finals, 2018 Manhattan Champions, 2018 Eastern NPL Finalists, 2019 NYCSL NPL Champions, 2019 NCFC (CASL) Champions, 2019 ESPN Disney Champions, 2019 PDA Champions, 2021 ENY State Cup Champions, and 2021 USYS Regional EDP. At Beacon High School Lucas was a 4-year starter and four year All-League and All-Section selection. He also was awarded All-State in 2021, and was named the Most Valuable Player in both 2020 and 2021. To add to his resume, Lucas was named the Poughkeepsie Journal Co-Player of the Year 2021 and is the all-time Beacon High School program leader in total wins, playoff wins, goals allowed and 38 shutouts. His high school won four league Championships during his time, the Dutchess County Regional Championship in 2020, and capped off a historic 2021 season with a Section 9 Championship. 

Andrea Nguionza - Sophomore - Center Midfield - 6-3/195 - Ontario, Canada - Virginia Commonwealth University
At VCU, Nguionza appeared in 10 games while starting two at Center Midfield. At Vaughan, he was selected as team captain and as a member of the Ontario Canada Provincial Team, winning bronze in the OFSAA. During his time in high school, he played in League One Ontario games which is the highest level of amateur soccer in Canada. Andrea will have three years of NCAA eligibility at Marist. 

Zach Rabadi - Freshman - Midfield/Wing - 5-10/135 - Hopewell Junction, NY - John Jay East Fishkill
At John Jay East Fishkill, Rabadi scored 27 goals and added 34 assists throughout his career as a three year varsity starter. In addition, Rabadi was named the 2020-2021 varsity captain, helping lead his team to a 2020-2021 League Championship. In 2020-2021, he was named an Elite 11 prospect player, was named All-League from 2019-2021, All-Section from 2020-2021, and All-State in 2021-2022. He capped off his high school career by winning Conference MVP and Player of the Year in 2021, and being named Poughkeepsie Journal All-Star and Player of the Year in the 2020-21 season. Rabadi also played with West Ham Youth academy in England in 2017, played with the PDP USA All-Stars in Italy and was selected to play in Indianapolis for the USA Club Soccer ID2 International Camp. 

Danny Ramm - Junior - Center Midfield - 6-0/180 - Freehold, NJ - St. John's University
Coming to the Red Foxes from St. John's, Ramm was a member of the team that appeared in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Prior to St. John's, Ramm appeared in four games during the 2020 season at William Patterson University. In his career at William Patterson University, he scored two goals and added one assist for a total of five points, earning the NJAC Rookie of the Year Award in Spring 2021. At Cedar Stars Monmouth, he lead the team in goals and assists as well as the leading goal scorer and assists in the US Soccer Development Academy. At the New York Red Bulls Academy, Ramm played in the prestigious Generation Adidas Cup versus international competition, he represented Red Bull's Academy in Austria, and was the top goal scorer in the Mediterranean International Cup in Barcelona, Spain. The Center Midfielder will have four years of NCAA eligibility remaining at Marist. 

Jonathan Salguero - Freshman - Midfield/Wing - 5-8/145 - Wyandanch, NY - Wyandanch Memorial
At Wyandanch Memorial, Salguero was named All-State in 2021 and 2019-2021 All-County. During his 2021 senior season, Salguero led Suffolk County in points (58) on 22 goals and 14 assists. With the LI Slammers, he was a 2021 NY State Cup Champion and scored the game winning goal in the finals. His team also was the National League P.R.O. Group winner, qualifying them for the National Championship Tournament in Disney's Wide World of Sports in the summer of 2022.

Donovan Wu - Senior - Right/Center Back - 6-0/160 - Medford, NJ - University of South Carolina
Joining the Red Foxes from South Carolina, Wu appeared in 22 games while starting four at Right Back over three seasons and contributed to eight shutouts. Wu also maintained a 4.0 GPA over three years at South Carolina. With the New York Red Bulls, Wu played in the USSDA playoffs in San Diego. As a member of the Philadelphia Union, he was named Academy Defender of the Year in 2016 and appeared in 49 games, making 46 starts in three seasons. Donovan will have two years of NCAA eligibility at Marist.
