POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Marist head football coach Mike Willis has announced two more hires to his staff. Bob Davies will serve as offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach, and TJ Weyl will be the Red Foxes' offensive line coach/run game coordinator/recruiting coordinator.
Â
Willis, Davies, and Weyl were all part of the Princeton offensive coaching staff in 2017. That season, the Tigers broke the Ivy League record for passing yardage and ranked in the Football Championship Subdivision's top five in passing, scoring, and total offense.
Â
"I am excited to welcome Bob Davies to Marist College Football. Bob is a rising star in this profession. His teams have set school and conference records at every stop in his professional career, including during our shared time at Princeton. His expertise in quarterback development, combined with his schematic prowess, will make him an invaluable member of our team. Most importantly, Bob is also a fundamentally good man. Our players will feel how much he cares about them every day. I am fired up to work together with Bob. He will be essential in coordinating and developing our Fast, Physical, and Together Offense. Marist College got better today!"

"I am excited to welcome TJ Weyl and his wife Ashley to Marist College Football. TJ is a football coach in the truest sense. He has coached outstanding players on both offense and defense at every level of college football, including during our time together at Princeton. He was my first hire at Marist College, which is reflective of our shared belief in each other. Most importantly, TJ is an elite relationship builder, an expert in running the football, and is a proven developer of All-American offensive linemen. TJ's expertise in all facets of a football organization will be felt throughout our offense and in our recruiting operation. Marist College is better for having TJ and his family in our community."

Davies arrives at Marist after serving as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Carleton since 2020. At Carleton, he put together an explosive offense that put together impressive statistics while executing the offensive with fast tempo. The Knights have posted seven-win seasons in each of the last three years. Prior to that, Carleton did not have consecutive winning seasons since 1988 and 1989.
Â
In 2022, Carleton set a school record by averaging 36.3 points per game, averaged 252.8 passing yards per game, and had its highest total of rushing yards (1,525) since 2015. The Knights set the program record with 278 completions in 2023 and threw for 283.5 yards per game. Carleton ranks fourth in the country in offensive tempo in the 2022 season, and 10
th fastest in 2023.
Â
Davies, who will turn 29 prior to the start of the 2024 season, will be one of the youngest offensive coordinators in Division I. He began his coaching career at Princeton as an assistant with the offensive line and video coordination in 2017. He was the quarterbacks coach at St. Lawrence in 2018, when the program set a single-season record for passing yards. He then served as offensive coordinator/offensive backfield coach at Franklin Pierce in 2019.
Â
"I am thrilled to be reunited with Coach Willis as the new offensive coordinator at Marist College," Davies said. "I believe strongly in his vision to create a premium student-athlete experience. I am certain we will build a program that is in line with the College's mission and on par with our elite academics."
Â
In the 2023 season, Weyl was offensive line coach/run game coordinator at Johns Hopkins. Weyl helped lead Johns Hopkins to a 12-1 record as the Blue Jays reached the Division III quarterfinals. The team averaged 40.92 points per game, ran for 200.2 yards per game, and rushed for 30 touchdowns. The season rushing yardage total of 2,831 was the fourth-highest single-season total in program history. This past season, Weyl coached All-American offensive linemen JR Woods and Mike Nwosu, aided in the development of All-American tight end Will Leger, and mentored All-League offensive lineman Garrett Brophy.
Â
Weyl arrived at Johns Hopkins from Rutgers, where he served as offensive quality control coach from 2020-22.  He worked closely with the offensive coordinator and tight ends coach on all facets of game planning, opponent analysis and recruiting. He was also responsible for providing weekly breakdowns of the opposition's defensive structure and tendencies to head coach Greg Schiano. In his time at Rutgers, the Scarlet Knights appeared in the 2021 TaxSlayer Gator Bowl.Â
Â
Prior to his time at Rutgers, Weyl also was a graduate assistant at Vanderbilt for the 2018 and 2019 seasons, where he worked primarily with the inside linebackers. Vanderbilt appeared in the 2018 Texas Bowl. Â He was an offensive quality control coach for one year each at Princeton (2017) and Monmouth (2016). Weyl also worked closely with the special teams' units at Princeton.
Â
"I'm so excited to join the Marist community," Weyl said. "Being reunited with Coach Willis is an honor, and I am so thrilled to begin building an unparalleled student-athlete experience for our players. I can't wait to get to work. Go Red Foxes!"
