POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – Marist head women's basketball coach Erin Doughty has announced an addition to her coaching staff. Gabi Mendonca will serve as the Red Foxes' assistant coach.
"We are thrilled to add Gabi to our coaching staff! She has extensive experience in team and game operations and will immediately enhance the running of our day-to-day operations," Doughty said. "She has worked in our sport at the highest levels and will undoubtedly bring new ideas to our staff and program. She is eager to grow as a coach and brings great energy to the office. She has hit the ground running and we are very fortunate that she is a Red Fox!"
Mendonca got her start in the business as a former student manager for the UConn Women's Basketball program for the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons. During her time with the Huskies, she contributed to the facilitation of practices by assisting players and ensured smooth gameday operations by completing miscellaneous tasks to assist coaches and players.Â

After her time at UConn, Mendonca joined the WNBA powerhouse Connecticut Sun as an equipment manager. During her time with the Sun, Mendonca ordered and administered team-issued gear while maintaining an inventory of current and future equipment within budgetary parameters.
She also supported in providing and fulfilling the daily needs of players, team personnel, and coaching staff. She also scheduled and directed rotating tasks of 20 team attendants that executed gameday operations throughout the season.
Mendonca graduated from UConn in May 2023 with her degree in sports management.
Doughty is entering her second season as head coach of the Red Foxes in the 2024-25 season. In addition to Mendonca, Brittany Shields and Moriah Crisp are new to the staff, while Nick Volchok returns as an assistant coach for the Marist women's basketball program.Â
