Burlington, VT - The Marist College volleyball team split a pair of matches today in Burlington, VT. First the Red Foxes defeated host Vermont 3-1 in four sets then were dropped by Binghamton 3-0 in straight sets.
Against Vermont, Marist dropped the first game 30-27, then won the next three by scores of 30-14, 30-23, and 30-28 to earn the victory. Freshman Aline dos Santos (Sao Paulo, Brazil) tied a school record with 22 kills and added a .526 hitting percentage, 11 digs and five aces. Senior Julie Gosewisch (Severna Park, MD) also had a double-double effort with 11 kills and 10 digs. The win was the Red Foxes first in consecutive games since the beginning of the 1999 season. Marist also defeated LIU in the McCann Center on Wednesday.
In the match against Binghamton, the Red Foxes put up a good fight in all three games, but were unable to capture a win as they were defeated by scores of 30-24, 30-28, and 30-21. Dos Santos again led the Red Foxes with eight kills and 11 digs.
Marist will be in action at Fairfield next Wednesday, October 31st at 7:00 PM for their next game. The Red Foxes next home game in the McCann center will be on Thursday, November 8th at 7:00 PM against St. Peter's.
