The Marist women's volleyball team lost a hard-fought match to Big East foe, Syracuse. The Red Foxes fell to 9-9 with the loss while the Orange improved to 14-5. The Marist defense kept the match close as the team picked up 62 total digs to Syracuse's 50.
Marist took control of the match early on, grabbing a quick lead in game one; however, the Syracuse offense powered the Orange to a 30-27 win. In game two, it was the Red Foxes' turn to make a comeback, though their efforts fell just shy as Syracuse came out with a 30-25 decision. Despite a late-game rally in the closing set, the Orange offense powered its way to a 30-22 win in the decisive game three.
Marist had three players in double-digit kills including sophomore Kim McEathron (Ballston Spa, NY) with 16, junior captain Katie Lux (Wantagh, NY) with 14 and sophomore Jaime Kenworthy (Aston, PA) with 13. Kenworthy and senior captain Amy Gillespie (Lebo, KS) led the Lady Foxes with eight kills each. Freshman Christy Lukes (Mesa, AZ) paced Marist's net play with two solo blocks.
Kristen Conway led the Orange with 17 kills, while Joscie Kaup recorded 12 digs to pace the defense.
The Red Foxes will settle into an eight-day break before taking on MAAC foes Canisius and Niagara on the road next weekend, Oct. 16 and 17.
