The Marist women's volleyball team picked up a solid win tonight over Wagner, 3-0 on the road. The Lady Red Foxes overpowered the Seahawks from the start, and 15 different players saw action in the match.
The Seahawks applied pressure early in game one, taking the game to an early 6-6 tie; however, the Red Foxes broke away, spurred by back-to-back kills from Sally Hanson (Guerneville, CA). It was all Marist from then on, as the Foxes jumped ahead to a quick lead that they would never relinquish en route to a 30-16 win. The Seahawks mounted a comeback attempt in game two, behind the offense of Kerry Krohn, but Marist pulled away with the 30-27 win. The Red Foxes would seal the match with a 30-26 victory in game three.
Sophomore Stefanie Miksch (Austin, TX) led the Marist offense with seven kills while classmate Jaime Kenworthy (Aston, PA) tallied five. Senior captain Amy Gillespie (Lebo, KS) paced the defense with seven digs, while 13 other Red Foxes contributed to the team's total 42 digs.
Krohn led the Seahawks with 10 kills, while Dominique Estes recorded 13 digs to pace lead the defensive effort.
The Red Foxes will close out their 2004 campaign with home matches against MAAC foes Rider (Friday at 7:00 p.m.) and Loyola (Saturday at 6:00 p.m.) this weekend. On Saturday, Marist will honor its seniors, Amy Gillespie and student assistant coach Aline DosSantos.
