Marist volleyball lost to tournament host La Salle in a five game match this evening. The Red Foxes went up two games to one after the first three, and lost the last two, 31-29 and 15-9. Senior Amy Gillespie (Lebo, KS) led Marist with a double-double, recording a team high 24 digs and 10 kills.
The Red Foxes got off to a quick start, taking a 30-25 win over the home team in the first game. They briefly faltered in the second, losing 30-19 and rebounded with a huge 30-22 win in the third game. La Salle eked out a 31-29 win in the fourth, and used that momentum to close out the match with a 15-9 win in the fifth.
Sophomores Jaime Kenworthy (Aston, PA) and Sally Hanson (Guerneville, CA) led the Red Foxes with 16 and 15 kills, respectively. Junior Meghan Cochrane (Placentia, CA) chipped in 42 assists, while classmate Katie Lux (Wantagh, NY) and sophomore Dominique O'Sullivan (Anaheim, CA) each recorded 20 digs.
The Explorers were led by Abby Means, who had 18 kills and Carolyn Judge, contributing 23 digs.
Marist's record fell to 1-1, while La Salle improved to 2-0. The Red Foxes will be in action again tomorrow at 12:00 p.m. against Coppin State and at 2:00 p.m. against Hartford.
