POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.-Marist Head Softball Coach Melissa Tucci announced four newcomers to the Red Foxes Softball Program. Mary Beth Pomes, Jessica Green, Lindsey Kinel and Melissa Giordano will join a Marist squad that is coming off a 23-22 campaign in 2005.
Pomes, an infielder from Milford, Pa., had a successful four year career while at Delaware Valley High School. Her team won the Lackawanna League Championship all four years she was a member of the team. In addition to her high school career, Pomes played on the 2004 Tri-State Angels that finished fifth out of 169 teams at the P.O.N.Y. nationals in Raleigh, N.C. Pomes was a Lackawanna League All-Star four years and in her senior campaign was named Lackawanna League Division I Player of the Year.
Green comes to Marist from Manassas, Va. as a first baseman and pitcher. She comes to Marist after a decorated high school career that saw her bat .532 with 40 RBI and six home runs. Her numbers garnered her all-regional and second team all state honors. As a follow-up Green was named captain for her senior year and batted .380 with 16 RBI, good enough for all-regional and all-area honors.
Kinel joins the Red Foxes as a catcher/utility player from East Hartford, Conn. While a member of the East Catholic team Kinel started all four years behind the plate and was named All-NWC three times. She was named a captain at East Catholic three years and in 2005 she was named the Female Athlete of the Year at East Catholic.
Giordano comes in as a shortstop from Stamford High School in Stamford, Conn. Giordano was named a tri-captain for two years while at Stamford as well as making all-county in 2003 and 2004. She was named all-state in 2004.
With the help of the newcomers Marist will look to build on a 2005 conference mark of 9-7.
