KISSIMMEE, FLA. - The Marist softball team played to a 6-1 loss to the 2009 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference champion Florida A&M Rattlers in its first game of the 2010 Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla. Sophomore Ashley Corriss (Sayville, N.Y.) scored the Red Foxes lone run in the game in the bottom of the sixth inning.
The Rattlers put up three runs in the first, two of which were scored on a home run by Tenisha Dixon. After the top of the second was complete Florida A&M led 4-0.
In the Marist half of the fourth, the first three Red Foxes to the plate reached base to load the bases as freshman Lauren Napoli (Guilderland, N.Y.) walked to lead off the inning. Sophomore Megan Lamoureux (Woonsocket, R.I.) singled through the left side of the infield. Classmate Nicole DiVirgilio (Aston, Pa.) also walked to make the bases full with no outs. However, Florida A&M got out of the jam after a Marist strike out and double play ended the inning.
Corriss led off the bottom of the sixth with a bunt base hit. After she stole second and got to third on a passed ball, she was driven in by DiVirgilio. She hit a sacrifice fly to center field, which was deep enough for Corriss to tag up.
Freshman Danielle Koltz (Chenango Bridge, N.Y.) leveled her record at 1-1 in the loss. She struck out seven batters as she threw a complete game, her second of the season.
