KISSIMMEE, FLA. - A sixth inning rally cut the Marist softball team's deficit to one run at 2-1, but the Red Foxes came up short as they fell to the Lafayette Leopards in a non-league contest at the 2010 Rebel Spring Games. Marist dropped its 10th straight game in the loss and fell to 1-13 this season.
Freshman Kate Malloy (Fair Haven, N.J.) and freshman Joelle Zahka (Lexington, Mass.) had base hits.
Lafayette got on the board first with two runs in the second inning. Maddy Allen drove in Kerry Griffin, while Emily Noel scored Kristin Garganio.
The lead was cut to one in the top of the sixth when Koltz scored on an RBI ground out by Nicole DiVirgilio (Aston, Pa.). The inning was ended as Malloy was thrown out at home on a ground ball by Lindsay Durant (Martinsville, N.J.).
Koltz took the loss in the circle for Marist as she dropped to 1-4 in her rookie season. She gave up nine hits three runs, all of which were earned and struck out one in six innings of work.
Marist will conclude play at the 2010 Rebel Spring Games on Saturday as it takes on Brown at 9 a.m., and Colgate at 1 p.m., at the Osceola County Softball Complex.
