KISSIMMEE, FLA. - Behind three doubles from junior left fielder Kate Malloy (Fair Haven, N.J.), the Marist softball team snapped a 10-game losing streak in a 3-2 victory over Brown at the 2010 Rebel Spring Games at the Osceola County Softball Complex. Senior Alanna Woody (Clinton Corners, N.Y.) collected her first win of the season in the circle, while sophomore Caitlin Schell (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) got her first save of the season in the win.
Woody pitched 6.1 innings as she gave up just two earned runs and struck out two batters. Schell came in to get the final two outs of the game with the bases loaded in the top of the seventh inning. She forced Alyssa Caplan to ground into a 3-2-4 double play to end the game.
Brown jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Kate Strobel scored the first run of the contest on a single by Stephanie Thompson.
The Red Foxes leveled the score at one a piece when McCallion Campbell (Port Jervis, N.Y.) drove in Malloy on a one out single in the bottom of the second. Malloy led off the inning with her first double of the contest. She was moved over to third on a Nicole DiVirgilio (Aston, Pa.) sacrifice bunt.
Marist made it a two-run advantage in the bottom of the fourth inning. Sophomore Lindsay Durant (Martinsville, N.Y.) hit a double to right center field which scored both Campbell and Christina Lausch (Lancaster, Pa.). Both Campbell and Lausch had two hits each in the contest.
