POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - With the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the seventh inning, sophomore Alanna Woody (Clinton Corners, N.Y.) got her second win of the season in the circle for the Red Foxes.
DiVirgilio drove in three runs in the game, including the game-winner. Sophomore Ashley Corriss (Sayville, N.Y.) was 2-for-2 at the plate with a single and a double. She reached base in all four plate appearances on the day as she also drew two walks.
After getting out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning, Marist fell behind when Yale scored two in the fourth to take a 3-1 lead.
The Red Foxes answered back in the fifth with two runs to take the lead. Woody and Corriss scored on a two-out base hit by DiVirgilio. The RBI single gave the Red Foxes a 3-2 lead as the game went into the sixth inning.
Yale tied the game with a Christy Nelson home run in the top of the seventh. DiVirgilio drove in Corriss for the game-winner in the bottom half of the inning to seal the victory for Marist.
Junior co-captain Kate Malloy (Fair Haven, N.J.) extended her hitting streak to seven games going 1-for-2 with two walks on the day. Freshman Christina Lausch (Lancaster, Pa.) drew two walks and has reached base in her last four games.
After allowing just two runs in 6.1 innings in her last win against Brown, Woody built off that outing. She allowed three runs in seven innings to earn the complete game victory for the Red Foxes. Woody retired seven in a row early in the game and added two strikeouts. She is 2-3 this season.
The win was Marist's third in a row, which ties the longest winning streak under second-year head coach Joe Ausanio.
