Game 1 Box Score | Game 2 Box Score
LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - The Marist softball team was swept in a doubleheader at Siena on Saturday in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play. The Red Foxes dropped game one 9-2 and came up short on the back end 3-2. The Saints scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to walk away with the win. Junior Kate Malloy (Fair Haven, N.J.) recorded her 100th career hit in game two as she went 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs.
Malloy tallied her milestone hit in the top of the first in game two. She put an RBI single through the left side of the infield which scored sophomore Ashley Corriss (Sayville, N.Y.) to vault Marist to a 1-0 lead. She collected three of the Red Foxes' five hits in game two, while sophomore Nicole DiVirgilio (Aston, Pa.) and Corriss notched two hits apiece in the first game of the afternoon.
In the second game of the day, the score was knotted at one as the game entered its final inning. Freshman Lauren Napoli (Guilderland, N.Y.) led off the seventh with a base hit to right field. After she was sacrificed over to second by Corriss, Napoli scored on a Malloy double down the left field line to put the Red Foxes in the lead 2-1. The double was Malloy's 13th of the season.
The Saints notched two runs of their own in the bottom half of the frame to leave Siena Field with a walk-off win. Alyssa Sceppaguercio and Shannon Jones each tallied RBIs to plate Kristen Borsella and Kayla Kaminsky. Kaminsky scored the game-winning run on a Jones fielder's choice with one out to wrap up the Saints' victory.
Marist opened the first game of the day with two runs in the first inning. Sophomore Alyxandra Ponce (Columbia, Md.) scored her sixth run of the season after a single by DiVirgilio. Malloy scored on an error by Siena second baseman Jessica Mushel. After the top of the first, the Red Foxes led 2-0.
Siena responded with a run in the first to cut the deficit to 2-1, and then four in the second to take a 5-2 lead. The four-run second was capped by a two-RBI base hit by Jones.
The Saints added four more runs in the bottom of the sixth behind a pair of home runs off Marist starter Emily Osterhaus (Suwanee, Ga.). Jones hit a three-run home run to center field to cap a five-RBI game at the plate, while Kirstyn Vaughn hit a two-out solo shot to right center. The long balls gave Siena a 9-2 advantage, the final score of the first game.
Marist will begin an eight-game homestand to conclude the 2010 regular season. On Tuesday, May 4, the Red Foxes will welcome Hartford to the Softball Park at Gartland Field for a non-conference doubleheader. The first pitch of game one is slated for 2:30 p.m.
