POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist softball team combined for 19 hits in two games as the Red Foxes swept the Hartford Hawks in a doubleheader at the Softball Park at Gartland Field on Tuesday. Marist took game one 5-0, its first shutout of the season, as freshman Emily Osterhaus (Suwanee, Ga.) pitched a complete game. She followed up her shutout performance with her first collegiate save in game two as she threw two more shutout innings. Marist won 8-4.

Osterhaus held the Hawks offense to just six hits in the contest as she set down the side in order in the fourth inning during a stretch where she retired five in a row. In the second game, she entered with two on and no out and set down the next three batters to get out of the jam.

Offensively, junior McCallion Campbell (Port Jervis, N.Y.) went 3-for-3 at the plate with a run scored and an RBI in game one. Classmate Kate Malloy (Fair Haven, N.J.) was 4-for-7 with three doubles and a run scored. She now has 16 doubles on the season and stands in second place on Marist's single-season doubles list. Freshman Brittany English (Wilton, Conn.) notched her first career home run in game two.

The Red Foxes opened the scoring in the bottom of the third inning on an Ashley Corriss (Sayville, N.Y.) RBI single which scored Campbell. Marist tacked on two additional runs in the fifth. Sophomores Lindsay Durant (Martinsville, N.J.) and Caitlin Schell (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) stretched the lead to 3-0.

Marist added two insurance runs in the sixth. Koltz drove in Malloy on a double to left center field. Koltz was scored by Campbell just one batter later.

In the second game, Hartford quickly got out to a 4-0 lead behind one run in the first and three in the third. The Red Foxes cut the lead down to three at 4-1 when Koltz hit her first home run of the day in the bottom of the third.

Marist scored four runs in the second. Back-to-back doubles by Malloy and Alyxandra Ponce (Columbia, Md.) and Malloy. DiVirgilio scored on a double down the right field line by Campbell. Freshman Sarah Carmody (Camarillo, Calif.) tallied the fourth RBI of the inning as a single up the middle drove in Campbell. Following the four-run third inning, Marist took a 5-4 lead.

The Red Foxes added three insurance runs in a two-home run fifth inning. Koltz hit a one out solo shot to left field. Three batters later, English pulled a pitch over the left center field fence for a two-run shot that drove in Campbell from second.

Senior Alanna Woody (Clinton Corners, N.Y.) notched her third win of the season in game two. She threw 3.2 innings and allowed just two hits. She gave way to Osterhaus in the sixth, who struck out four batters in two innings of work, including all three outs in the seventh inning of the game.

Marist improved to 8-31 with the pair of wins on the day; Hartford now stands at 16-22.

The Red Foxes will continue their eight-game homestand on Thursday, May 6 at 2:30 p.m. Marist will host the Manhattan Lady Jaspers in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) doubleheader.
