RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Kelly Kline (Reading, Pa.) scored three goals, and the Marist water polo clamped down, only allowing 11 shots on goal in a 10-5 win over George Washington on Friday at the Lancer Invite, hosted by Cal Baptist.
Desiree Desaulniers (Orlando, Fla.) also scored twice, Shelby Rinker (Lansdale, Pa.) had a goal and an assist and Jaclyn Puccino (San Diego, Calif.) added two assists. Jessica Hamby, (Sacramento, Calif.), Robyn Crabtree (Cutler Bay, Fla.) and Hannah Levien (Davis, Calif.) also found the back of the net. Rebecca Thomas (Cape Town, South Africa) made six saves in goal.
Trailing 2-1 after the first quarter, the Red Foxes held George Washington scoreless until 3:48 left in the final quarter, meanwhile scoring eight unanswered goal.
In their second game, Marist fell to tournament host Cal Baptist by an 8-4 score.
Kline scored two more goals and Yuriria Chavez (Chicago, Ill.) and Alison Hamby (Sacramento, Calif.) each added goals. Puccino assisted on three of the four goals. In goal, Thomas made seven saves.
The Red Foxes close out their spring break trip to the west coast with two more games on Saturday. They will take on Claremont and La Verne, all part of the Lancer Invite.
