NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Marist men's tennis team competed in the second day of the Columbia Invite on Saturday, facing some of the best competition in the northeast. The Red Foxes went a combined 2-7 on the day, but four of the six singles' losses came in three set matches.
In the lone doubles' match of the day, the duo of Lorenzo Rossi (Lugano, Switzerland) and Will Reznek (Toronto, Canada) fell to a pairing from Columbia 8-6.
In singles action in Draw “A”, both Rossi and Dalen Klassen (St. Louis, Mo.) won back draw matches in straight sets. Rossi defeated his opponent from Fordham by a 7-5 (5), 6-2 score while Klassen eased past his adversary from NJIT, 6-4, 6-0. Both fell in their second back draw match of the day, with Klassen losing a hard fought, three-set battle against his opponent from Texas-Arlington, 6-4, 3-6, 10-8.
Joseph Dube (Livonia, Mich.) fell in three sets in the main draw of Draw “B”, dropping a tough match against an opponent from Columbia, 6-3, 5-7 (5), 6-3.
Reznek also took on a player from Columbia in the main draw of Draw “B”, falling in three sets 5-7 (5), 6-2, 6-2.
Trym Nagelstad (Oslo, Norway) dropped a main draw match in Draw “C” to his opponent from Texas-Arlington 4-6, 7-5 (5), 6-0.
Also in Draw “C”, Fredrike Bjerke (Oslo, Norway) fell to his opponent from NJIT 6-3, 6-0.
"We faced a lot of good competition this weekend,” said Marist assistant coach Jason Sacher. “We are looking forward UConn and the ITA's in a couple of weeks."
Marist will play its first home event of the season when it hosts UConn for a dual match on Tuesday, Oct. 15. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m.
