EDISON, N.J. – Senior Kelsey Raynor (Garden City, N.Y.) was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Women's Tennis Player of the Week on Tuesday afternoon. Raynor garnered the honors for her efforts versus Niagara, Siena and Saint Peter's this past week.
Raynor was the Red Foxes' leading performer as the team went 3-0 for the week on their way to a share of the MAAC Regular Season Championship. In all three of her first singles competitions, the senior defeated her opponents in straight sets, including dropping just one point versus Niagara's Hilary Hansen in a 6-1, 6-0 win and two points against Siena's Brittany Filip in a 6-0, 6-2 result. Raynor augmented her win total with a pair of victories in doubles as she partnered with Sabrina Tahir to defeat teams from Saint Peter's and Niagara.
This is Raynor's third career weekly award after earning accolades on March 8, 2011 and April 20, 2010. As a team, this is the Red Foxes' third MAAC award of the 2013 season as senior Joana Sun (Mansfield, Mass.) won last week on April 16, while junior Marielle Campbell (Patterson, N.Y.) won on February 26.
Raynor and the Red Foxes will be in action at the MAAC Championships this weekend as the number two seed. Beginning on Saturday, April 27 at 10 a.m. Marist will take on third-seeded Niagara in the semifinals. The finals will be held on Sunday, April 28.
