POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist men's tennis team defeated Fordham 5-0 in its only home meet of the fall season Oct. 8. The Red Foxes won four singles matches, all in straight sets, and took the doubles point.

Freshman Jan Dernic (Koper, Slovenia) had the most lopsided victory of the afternoon, defeating freshman Harris Durkovic 6-0, 6-1. Senior Joseph Dube (Livonia, Mich.) finished off freshman Pol Giraldez 6-4, 6-0, while freshman Fredrik Bjerke (Oslo, Norway) defeated senior Max Peara 6-2, 6-1. Senior captain Matteo Giudici (Parma, Italy) and freshman Timo Tanzer (Auvernier, Switzerland) also emerged with victories following 6-1 set wins.

Giudici teamed up with sophomore Dylan Fletcher (Stow, Mass.) to take down the Rams' duo of freshman Joey Brander and junior Pedro Alonzo 8-1.   

“It was a wonderful day with some good results," head coach Tim Smith said. "Our doubles teams are still a work in progress, but I was very happy with our singles play, especially Kurz, Dube, Bjerke, and Giudici. We look forward to seeing who will play in the ITA Regionals and we'll find that out tomorrow.”

The ITA Regionals will be held from Oct. 16-19 in New Haven, Conn.
